Build It Up, Tear It Down

from Dreamland by Collapsing Opposites

lyrics

You build it up and tear it down.
You build it up and knock it down.
You’re feeling safe behind your stone wall,
but stone is also in a cannon ball.
Well, castles rise and then fall down.
Stone empires crumble to the ground.
What goes up soon must fall.
You build it up. You drop the ball.
Well, cities grow where culture thrives.
Those fuckers wanna help ‘em gentrify.
The costs go up and people leave.
Empty homes/houses. Security.
The fuckers die and it’s a slum.
Prices drop. New artists come.
Trees were cut and land was paved.
One, two, skip a few, and nature takes it back again.

The sun will rise. The sun will set.
The moon it goes in circles around your bed.
A star is born and then it’s gone.
The galaxies have got it going on.
The biggest bang. A bigger bounce.
There’s a pattern here and that’s what counts.
Summer comes and then it’s fall.
Twenty year old fashions for the ball.
The tide rolls in and then it’s gone.
Starfish trapped up on your lawn.
Good will come for those who wait.
Get the fish, don’t take the bait.
Read a book and then it’s read,
but it won’t be very long ‘til you forget.
Well this was new and now it’s old.
Developments and progress happening quicker now, or so I’m told.

You’re growing up. You come of age.
Generations rise and then they fade.
You lead a life. You do your thing,
but there are others waiting in the wings.
A lesson taught. A lesson learned.
Eighty years on a bell curve.
There were nurses then and nurses now.
Diapers then, and diapers now / well I won’t tell.
Well, you can live and you can learn.
You can end up in a little urn.
You’re growing up. You’re getting old.
A one-way street, or so we’re told,
but others say that you’ll be back.
On other topics they all come back.
Today I died, now I’m a babe.
Ninety-nine, one hundred ages, why must I do this again?
